Angry atheist drops lawsuit against military

Chad Groening - OneNewsNow - 10/23/2008 9:15:00 AM

A former evangelical Navy chaplain is pleased that an atheist in the
military has dropped his lawsuit against Defense Secretary Robert Gates and
the Department of Defense.

Private First Class Jeremy Hall claimed that an officer prevented him from
holding an atheist meeting while he was deployed in Iraq. So in 2007 the
Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) filed suit on behalf of Hall,
claiming religious discrimination. Gordon James Klingenschmitt, a former
naval chaplain, disagrees with Hall's take on the situation.

"When people go off to war, they want to be right with God before they die
on the battlefield," he contends. "So obviously [Hall's fellow soldiers]
were not interested in his brand of atheism, and when he couldn't get enough
people to come to his meetings, he filed a lawsuit pretending that he was
suppressed or oppressed."

Even though earlier this month Hall decided to drop his lawsuit and also
plans to leave the Army next spring, the head of the MRFF is pursuing a
second lawsuit on behalf of another atheist soldier who claims he was
required to attend three events in which Christian prayers were delivered.
"Why do the atheists, the liberals pretend that they can use government
power to censor the name of Jesus Christ, government power to stop the
Christian faith from being expressed or even spoken about by anyone in the
military?" Klingenschmitt wonders.

The former chaplain points out that military personnel do not forsake their
right to religious expression when they put on a uniform.

This is why the leaders just *love* religion, isn't it? Why not die for
your country if you believe there is a reward waiting for you after you
die? Religion is mind control, and it looks like you've fallen for it hook
line and sinker. Sucks to be you.

Politicians and Popes have always gone hand in glove for mutual support.

Both are lower than whale poop and that's on the bottom of the ocean.

Yeah, after all, Klingenschmitt knows that government
power should be used to force the Christian faith on
everyone, whether they want to hear it or not.
