Quote:
Kater Moggin <moggin@attbiTHORN.com>:

... I pointed out that Epiphanius'
Panarion offers evidence that disparaging rumors about Paul go
back to antiquity, contrary to the idea they're all modern
inventions. Apparently Roger found that very upsetting. He's
replied in your usual style, i.e., alternating between
unsupported attacks and outright falsehoods, like for instance
his absurd claim I dated the Recognitions to the 1st c. --
Roger's Olympic-size leap from my point that it must have been
written before 375 CE or so.

roger_pearse@yahoo.co.uk (Roger Pearse):

Moggin has been positively obsessed with
me lately -- ever since I pointed out that he was misrepresenting
Epiphanius in order to suggest that disparaging rumors about Paul go
back to the first century.

The misrepresentation is Roger's, of course. I showed the
Panarion, written by Epiphanius around 375 CE, reports a
certain dispaaging rumor about Paul, contrary to the idea those
are all modern inventions.

The misrepresentation is Moggin's, of course. He pretended the
Panarion, written by Epiphanius around 375 CE, reports a
certain disparaging rumor about Paul as ancient and in the Clementine
Recognitions. When challenged he started to throw abuse. <yawn>

Quote:
Needless to say, he's too scared to actually post the Panarion

Funny. What happened to the rest of the sentence. "Panarion
30:15-16".

Quote:
I repeatedly posted the evidence.

Oh? Where?

Quote:
Funny it never turns up
in Rogers' replies. Here it is again:

Nor are they ashamed to accuse Paul here with
certain false inventions of their false apostles'
villainy and imposture. They say that he was a Tarsean
-- which he admits himself and does not deny. But they
supposed he was of Greek parentage, taking the
occasion for this from the (same) passage because he
frankly said, "I am a man of Tarsus, a citizen of no
mean city." They then claim that he was a Greek and
the son of a Greek mother and father, but that he had
gone up to Jerusalem, stayed a while, and desired to
marry a daughter of the high priest. He therefore
became a proselyte and was circumcised. But since he
still could not get that sort of girl he became angry
and wrote against circumcision, and the Sabbath and
Legislation.

Epiphanius, Pan. 30.16.8-9

But still no Panarion 30:15-16. Funny how Moggin has to misrepresent
everyone, even himself.

All the best,

Roger Pearse

There will be a meeting for all such persons in the telephone box at
reception at 4pm.

The rest of us should pray for the poor fellow. (Or sing to your
rock, or sacrifice something, or whatever).

To the best of my knowledge, I have never been called a liar by Moggin.
I
have been called numerous other things, (and have done my share of
calling
as well), but not "liar" as far as I know.

Do we have a winner?!

I'm new here so maybe I don't count. I have certainly never been called a
liar by Kater though he did refer to me once as a pansy, I think. But I get
that a lot for whatever reason.

Apologies. My newsreader must be screwing up. It insists
on calling you Bassingthwaighte, too.

False. I pointed out the Panarion describes a disparaging
rumor about Paul, contradicting the notion those are all
merely modern inventions, and I backed up my claim with a quote
from Williams' English translation.

Quote:
and in the Clementine Recognitions.

You're falling behind. I agreed Epiphanius did not assign
the rumor to the Recognitions, in specific (often called
pseudo-Clementine, incidentally) back when you raised the topic.

Quote:
When challenged he started to throw abuse.

Interesting what Roger labels "abuse," in this instance my
observation he misrepresented me by claiming I dated the
Recognitions to the 1st or 2nd century. Seems as tho he blames
me for his embarrassing mistake.

Moggin:

Yet another one of Roger's empty attacks. He does succeed
in ignoring the evidence above, which contradicts the idea
that disparaging rumors about Paul are just a 20th c. invention.

Pansy,

Considering the issue was just being called a "liar", I think your "newness"
here is no problem. It seems it is down to you and I. Wink

Oh...the re-carnation issue. Smile Not so thorny as others.

Thanks for the remarks. Smile

Um. I'll have to ponder that. There's probably a reason...

No, as a newbie I think you don't count. But give it time... and
don't take it personally. Welcome to the bear pit, by the way.
