and this is a Christian bombarding AA as occult nuttery. Or a Rational
Emotive Behavior Therapy claim of general nuttery:

Then there are the various health care professionals who view all of the
above as income-threatening nuttery.
At least AA provides plenty of coffee and doesn't walk around with its hand
out. The recovery rate of its participants is depressing -- as is that of
all other approaches.

Not really. Gettign away from addiction is largely* a matter of jsut
suckign it up.
*There are some chemical treatments that seem to work, with even the
possibility of a medical remedy for nicotine addiction. |

AA offers something more than going it on your own, namely it is something
to do. After you've been drinking for N years, your life tends to center
around a bottle when you're not working. Not drinking is one thing;
rebuilding a social life outside of ginmills is another. There are a lot of
conditioned reflexes. It's like stopping smoking, and when you get a cup of
coffee you reach for the pack, or if you stop to talk to someone at work.
Dating myself there, back when half the people in the workplace had a butt
in their mouths.
Some people have family, friends, stuff like that to ease the transition;
others have AA.
