Did you know that there is not one Psalm, which does not say "God,"
the
"LORD," or the "Lord?" No, not one! It's certain He knew to Whom the
Psalmists were referring; however, notice that, nevertheless, this
did
not go without actually saying. Have you ever had a person carry on a
conversation with you, and not say your name, even once? If so, how
did
that make you feel? Never experienced that? Well, may you never
experience that, I say.
I've had many conversations where people dont mention my name, if you
have the brain cells to tell they're talking to you than its no
problem, my friend doesnt have to say my name every sentence so that I
know he's talking to me...
"HEy, Bro"
"Hey, Whats up?"
"Going to the movies, wanna come"
"Nah, sorry man, me and Grace were going to go hang at her place"
"You sure? Tanner and Becca are coming"
"I might catch up to you guys later"
"Alright, see you"
"Yeah, stay outta trouble"
We never even said each others name, but theres no doubt who we're
talking to...
That only covers one situation, Van, but there are at least two more:
One, where the person has totally forgotten your name, and they're too
embarrassed to admit that, or to ask you for it again.
Two, where the person is not your friend, and they don't respect you or
even like you, and that's their way of showing it.
Now, are you willing to admit that there's more than just one scenario?
calm down yankee doodle, I didnt attack you, You just said it was
disrespectful if someone doesnt address you by your name, I proved you
wrong, and Mike Painter gave you 2 more scenarios. If someone forgets
my name, I dont consider it disrespectful, I understand it because I
have trouble with names if I dont have a face to match to it. Second,
I've never had someone who hated my guts not say my name, as some sort
of subliminal insult...
Just calm down and assume I meant no harm...
Van, I am so calm that it's beyond your imagination. Also, I didn't say
that you had attacked me. And "disrespectful" was only one of the total
options (one of yours, two of mine, and those of Mike's). Personally, I
think there are *at least* three reasons why people won't say another's
name in a conversation, but I never picked one reason over the other,
and said, "That's the one." Why? Because this is a "no
one-size-fits-all" situation, in my opinion.
BTW, have you noticed that I keep steadily calling you by your name, and
that I have completely ignored the rather nasty things that you've said
to me? I'll say it again, you have a big-chip on your shoulder. Even
after I told you a little bit about myself (German ancestors, German
girlfriend, serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, whatever), just to
stimulate a friendly conversation, you latched on to the U.S. Army
"thing," and started ranting on that. So, I suggest that you need to
tell yourself to calm down, and that you try to understand that I'm not
the one who did the harm here. (Well, I might have said a little
something, but, overall, I've been taking it pretty easy with you, all
things considered.)
I wasnt attacking you for being in the U.S. army, I was attacking the
U.S. Army, the fact that you served is great, I have family who serve
in both the German and Amerikan militarys, my family can trace its m
ilitary lineage back to a German Grenadier in WW1, then a German
Soldier in WW2, then an Amerikan soldier in Korea, then an Amerikan
Private in Iraq, An Amerikan Colonel in Afganistan and a German Major
in Afganistan. So, yes, very military family and I intend to continue
it by Joining the Bundeswehr... anyway, I was just saying that
Amerikas bases had no place in Germany anymore and should get out...
nothing against you.
Chuck:
"Economic growth is expected to slow to 1.9% in 2008 and 1.6% in 2009, a low
point for the forecast period. The main reason for stronger growth from 2010
will be high rates of domestic demand growth. However, against a background
of large global imbalances, the downside risks to our export projections
over the forecast period are substantial."
["Economist.com"; see athttp://www.economist.com/countries/Germany/profile.cfm?folder=Profile...]
With a slow growth economy projected for the rest of this year, and most of
next, not to mention the inherent instability created by "large global
imbalances" just mentioned by The Economist (the above German economic news
and analysis outlet online), wouldn't it be a near fatal mistake to lose one
of your bigger consumer groups; i.e., the US military in Germany?
|
how about you just pull out and we'll worry about our own economy... |

following Amerikan laws, which means they will take no action against
the nazis, the German Police forces do their best to arrest them, but
its like drug dealers in Amerika, they're elusive. |

Doesn't say much for anybody else in this person's life
Have you ever

name, even once? If so, how did that make you feel? Never
experienced that? Well, may you never experience that, I say.
Yes, all the time. In both business and private life. In person and
on the telephone.
The only time it is common is when using a two way radio and that is
at the start of an exchange and used to identify who is being called
and who is calling.
Hi mike, which is not a part of the conversation may happen once in
a while with people I don't see often.
However I know the people I talk to most of the time and they know
me. I'm guessing the rather reduntant wording is designed to please some
god and they should know who is talking to them.
See my response to Van. Maybe, you'll see what I was driving at.
No, I don't you said that people should "never experience" not having their
name mentioned in every conversation and I responded to that.
Why do you feel it is so important?
In general, because people who realize its importance and put it into |
practice tend to be better with people and to do better in business.
There are sources out there, I'm sure, to back this up. [I've seen them
(books, magazines, periodicals, journals, whatever) or heard them
(seminars, sales meeting, talks, whatever) more than once since the
early '70s.]
| Quote: |
Why do you feel *nobody* should ever have to experience it and why do you
feel that "god" and "lord or "Jesus" should have been every third word.
As to the first question, it was "my drama," as it were, and it also |
goes back to what I said above, from the things I've read or heard,
others have mentioned that people like to hear their names in
conversations, and I agree with their assessment. Now, if it's not that
important to you, fine, I can live with that.
As to the other part, I've already explained that. What Vera wrote
looked kinda'-sorta' like a Psalm to me, minus what I've already pointed
out earlier. Anyone can check Psalms for that. However, what I said
only applied to Psalm-type writings or sayings, and wasn't meant to be
applied to everyone's everyday speech. No, it was only for the
Psalmist-types in the world...if that was even what Vera was doing...but
the point being "It wasn't meant for everyone."
| Quote: |
I guess I could ask why you don't practice what you preach too.
I think that I've already answered this. It wasn't meant for everyone. |
In fact, it wasn't even meant for me...I'm not looking to be a
Psalmist-type. |

it by Joining the Bundeswehr... anyway, I was just saying that
Amerikas bases had no place in Germany anymore and should get out...
nothing against you.
First of all, I didn't say that you were attacking me for being in the |
U.S. Army. I had specifically said, "you latched on to the U.S. Army
'thing, and started ranting on that." That's a fact...you did.
Also, I want you to understand something. U.S. troops are in Germany
under NATO. German troops are under NATO, as well, and since Germany's
reunification, German troops, under NATO, were sent to the Balkans and
Afghanistan as a peacekeeping force to secure stability or to provide
security in those regions. The soldiers of both countries are following
their orders from NATO.
I suppose that you will now argue, "but this is totally different";
however, it's not different. The U.S. and Germany have agreed, at this
present time, that their respective military forces obey NATO orders,
and that's a fact that can't just be ignored for argument's sake.
And then there's the factor of the U.N. Charter. According to Article 107:
"Nothing in the present Charter shall invalidate or preclude action, in
relation to any state which during the Second World War has been an
enemy of any signatory to the present Charter, taken or authorized as a
result of that war by the Governments having responsibility for such
action."
In short, this is what keeps armed forces in Germany, because your
country is still viewed as an "enemy state," as it were. However, it
must be said that the U.N. has also stated it's intent to get rid of the
"enemy state" wording at "an appropriate time." Therefore, your
complaint is mis-directed at the U.S. and its military, when it would be
better directed towards the U.N. and NATO...since Germany is a member of
both, the U.N. and NATO.
Frankly, the U.S. could probably benefit financially if it were able to
keep its military "at home," but there's always some "renegade element"
out there, which would preclude the idealism of Utopian thinking. |

Yes, Vera, I liked it, but it seemed kinda' empty or flat or
something. You see, when I first read what you wrote, that's what
jumped out at me, that you hadn't actually mentioned Him. And before
I posted, I looked through the entire Book of Psalms, before I said
anything. Now, if I noticed that, how much more Him? So, yes, I
liked it, but is it really finished?
I have no idea. Actually, I just copied and pasted it. :-)
Do me a favor next time you do the copy & paste thing. If it's not |
yours, use quotation marks, and include the name of the author if known.
If author is not known, still use the quotations, but add "author
unknown." See the wisdom in this?

it by Joining the Bundeswehr... anyway, I was just saying that
Amerikas bases had no place in Germany anymore and should get out...
nothing against you.
First of all, I didn't say that you were attacking me for being in the
I suppose that you will now argue, "but this is totally different";
however, it's not different. The U.S. and Germany have agreed, at this
present time, that their respective military forces obey NATO orders,
and that's a fact that can't just be ignored for argument's sake.
|
Why should we keep down the 'renegade elements' around the world?
The US Military has a proud history of *readiness* not preemption.
And Van is apparently conflating the fine men and women who serve,
with the legion of thugs who service lobbyists in the halls of congress.

Did you know that there is not one Psalm, which does not say "God,"
the "LORD," or the "Lord?" No, not one! It's certain He knew to
Whom the Psalmists were referring; however, notice that,
nevertheless, this did not go without actually saying. Have you
ever had a person carry on a conversation with you, and not say
your name, even once? If so, how did that make you feel? Never
experienced that? Well, may you never experience that, I say.
Okay, but otherwise you like it?
Yes, Vera, I liked it, but it seemed kinda' empty or flat or
something. You see, when I first read what you wrote, that's what
jumped out at me, that you hadn't actually mentioned Him. And before
I posted, I looked through the entire Book of Psalms, before I said
anything. Now, if I noticed that, how much more Him? So, yes, I
liked it, but is it really finished?
I have no idea. Actually, I just copied and pasted it. :-)
In addition, I thin there is too much "I", "I", "I" first - "You" last.
I would prefer it the other way round, or more "Yous" than "Is" all in
all.
Yeah, well, there is that.
But Van said it - one would have to hear it with voice or instruments to
make it a hymn.
Just using the Psalms as an example alone, it should also include to |
Whom we're praising, or honoring, or worshiping, or thanking. Without
that, and if a billion years were to go by, would the people living then
know Who we were talking about?
