This reader has cut off the long post in the wrong place and I cannot
seem to find a way to stop it from doing so. I just the post has just
gotten too long for it.
Chuck:
James, if that's the case, you can always edit the length down as I just did
above, to allow room to focus in on a point of interest for you. The only
time someone snipping tends to get to me is when they snip what I have said,
only to then characterize it in an inaccurate way in their response, and
then proceed to argue against THEIR characterization of what I actually
said. That, to me, is intellectually dishonest. That is tilting at
windmills; erecting strawman arguments, whatever one cares to call it, and
it is a waste of everyone's time.
As long as you dont' do that, feel free to snip whatever you want with my
blessings!
James:
At any rate, I have enjoyed the discussion and I think we are mostly
in agreement on this, the disagreement , if any seems to be in our use
of terms.
Chuck:
I have also enjoyed our discussion to this point, and feel the same way:
that we are largely expressing the same truths using different
approaches...with the one caveat I mentioned last time, that your approach
gives us no way to justify God allowing so much evil to occur for so long,
without calling His omnipotence and omniscience into question. For if God
knows how to stop evil, and is powerful enough to do anything possible (and
it certainly seems that acting to preclude any evil is logically possible to
do for an omniscient Being!), then we have to have a way to justify God NOT
stopping evil, and I don't think your analysis, as far as I understand it
anyway, gives us a way to do that.
The Free Will Defence, once understood, gives us that way.
James:
I would simply make one more point.
When Jesus came, and was tempted by Satan, He was offered the worlds
by Satan for bowing down and worshiping Satan. Jesus never challenged
Satan's claim to ownership of this world. That is a fact that has not
come up in our discussion.
Chuck:
Well, actually it has been at least implied when you talked about God giving
man dominion over all the earth and I agreed with you on that point. That
dominion transferred to Satan in the Garden at the Fall, did it not? Isn't
that what Jesus is acknowledging by not disputing Satan's claim here?
James:
To be complete, I think this fact must be
part of it. If Satan is the god of this world, then this also
explains much of the evil in this world and also the facts regarding
God's "holding" back on intervention or methods of intervention.
Chuck:
While I agree with your conclusion, I'd like to see how you get there.
James:
If Satan owns the world, what is God's ability to intervene? I think
He did what was "legal" by sending prophets and used those that
believed to intervene, including Jesus of course who paid the price
for freedom for those who believe. That freedom to not be under
Satan's rule and authority to resist Satan and as Acts 10:38 says to
destroy his works. As Christians we are different from the rest of
humans in this way. Satan's ability to rule over us is broken and we
have authority in Christ over him. In this we see acts of authority
like casting out devils, healings, etc. The authority of the believer
is also an interesting discussion.
Chuck:
Yes, it most certainly is, but I would suggest we get there by some other
route than by questioning God having any number of ways open to Him to
intervene and eradicate the evil in the world. True, the world is under
Satan's dominion, because God gave dominion to man, and man transferred that
dominion to Satan when man put Satan in the position of "controller of my
life" (i.e., Adam made Satan his "God") by man's sin.
But does it follow that God must save man? Or that God couldn't just cease
to sustain Satan in being and everything that now belongs to Satan as well?
It would be perfectly just of God to simply eradicate all of creation; the
world, mankind, the universe, the angels, and start over...or not do
anything else except to be the eternal God God always was before He created
anything. We need to see that God was under no obligation to create, and is
under no obligation to sustain creation in being regardless of the moral
state of that creation. Creation can therefore never become "good" enough
to "oblige" God to sustain it in being, nor "evil" enough to "oblige" God to
cease sustaining it in being. Creation exists for one, and only one reason:
the good pleasure of selfless Love.
So we can't question God's ability to intervene in His creation simply on
the basis of Satan's present dominion over it. We can't conceptually limit
God's avenue of intervention to what God has done through His Son, Jesus
Christ, or the pouring out of His Holy Spirit into the hearts of believers,
for if we believe Revelation (not to mention Exodus!), there will come a
time when God intervenes in the world in a very different fashion, and even
here we cannot say that because this is what God does this is all God can
do, or the softer version of it, this is what God is "obliged" to do. We
want to be very, VERY careful in our thinking that we don't accidently begin
to use lines of thought that either directly or indirectly limit the actions
of an Absolute Being.
Anyway, it's fairly clear to me you're on the right track and we have no
serious differences in this area. |

Actually, that's not true.
Now explain why I should believe a single word YOU say. (I don't)
I don't care what you believe, John.
Um hmm. But he's the sort who would tell you to ridicule and mock
and harass and libel a "fellow vet" merely because I didn't serve in
a
"war zone" during the Vietnam War?
He's still a jerk, if that's true.
You're creating another scenario in your mind that doesn't exist and
using it as an argument, John. I think that's called a straw-man,
isn't it?
Gee! I wouldn't know! I'm an idiot! (you said so)
As I've told a stack of jerks before you, "I served where I was
sent."
As if you had any choice.
Well, if I served where they put me, how can you OR your daddy
point a finger?
But you do! (well, YOU do! I doubt if he actually does)
Like any branch, there were jerks above me wherever I went.
Yes, I suspect that you have always had a disdain and loathing for
those in authority over you, John.
You would be wrong.
What I HAVE had disdain for was teachers and profs who had no
respect for other views (atheists gunning for Christians), and
employers who hire me because THEY have NO clue how to do the job,
but they then want to look over my shoulder and tell ME how to!
Yeah! I have a problem with that.
But I DO wonder why you so often LEAP to accuse me.
I know! I know! Ask me, I know!!
Because she's pond scum; hypocritical, lying, homosexual pond scum.
Actually, that's unfair to pond scum. <Sorry, pond scum> I'm don't
know
a
noun disgusting enough to denote the category she's in, but the one she
fits
is why she leaps to accuse you, John.
Oh, did I mention "racist"? She's shown herself to be a racist, too.
She
said if she can't vote for a white, female (bisexual?) liberal Democrat
for
president (Hilliary Clinton), she's goin' vote for a white, male,
Republican
(John McCain) rather than a black, male, liberal Democrat (Barak Obama)!
Seems pretty clear that "white" is the central theme in those
preferences.
She's willing to change genders and parties in an election where the two
parties couldn't BE more disparate in their political philosophies this
time
around, but not races. Gotta be somebody white!!
Of course she denies it; but then don't all racists deny being
racists...and
we already know about her problems with personal honesty.
You know what I wonder, John? How does anyone get so low? I mean, what
sort of life does someone have to suffer to get this sick in their soul?
The astonishing thing about Kelly is that she hasn't already shriveled
up
and died of her own malevolence.
Thanks for that tip, Chuck! I hadn't noticed her "anti-black"
sentiments until you mentioned that. Now I VAGUELY remember that
snippet from another conversation.
As for "how does anyone get so low? It's spiritual. I believe it's
painfully evident to any REAL Christian that she's not. (a real
Christian)
Let me tell you a story, Chuck.
I don't know if it's true, but I was TOLD that when I lived in Los
Angeles, 30 years ago, I attended the original "gay Christian Church."
It was "Metropolitan Community Church" in Hollywood.
I was in college, working at a theater in Hollywood, trying to earn a
few bucks to help pay school expenses. One of the guys I got friendly
with turned out to be a homosexual, but he CLAIMED he was a Christian.
After several discussions, I invited him to church with me. He said
he'd go, BUT... I had to agree to go to church with him FIRST. He was
a member of the Metropolitan Community Church (gay) in Hollywood.
Well, we hemmed and hawed. I had NO interest in visiting his church,
but he kept promising me that if I'd go with him, he'd go with me.
I wanted him to see what a REAL church was actually all about.
So we got ready, and we went to his church one Sunday morning.
It wasn't terribly big. Perhaps a sanctuary that held 500 warm
bodies. I got to meet the famous Rev Perry. (wasn't impressed)
I noticed some STRIKING THINGS.
* The times Rev Perry prayed, everyone sat there, eyes open, relaxed,
and WATCHED him pray. Not a bowed head in the sanctuary.
(It was entertainment)
* As the people came in-- be they male or female-- he kissed every
single person on the mouth.
I found/ I FIND that extremely inappropriate.
On the cheek is one thing. But would you take your family to church
and watch as the pastor embraced your WIFE or your MOTHER or your
daughter(s) and kissed them directly on the lips?
I'd knock him on his butt.
Now, if that's their tradition, that's fine. But I've been told
"it's scriptural;" it's not. Peter said, "greet one another with a
kiss." No one was greeting "everyone else with a kiss" but the pastor.
I'm not saying it was "sexual." I'm saying it was WEIRD and not
entirely scriptural.
* As I looked around the "congregation", I saw TWO Bibles. The Bible I
was carrying, and the Bible Rev Perry had. These folks were not Bible
readers.
It is my view that they were there MERELY to be assured "You're ok."
They weren't there to worship God (IMHO); they were there to worship
themselves.
Interesting story. Did the guy go with you to your church the next
Sunday?
Oh My Gosh! I forgot the PUNCH line. Thanks for asking. Short
answer: No.
He hemmed and hawed that he would not/ could not feel comfortable in
a "straight church", but he'd go IF I'd go to his first.
I went. The middle of the week, I was making arrangements with him
for church at First Baptist Van Nuys the next Sunday.
"I'm not going." he tells me. "You lied to get me to go to church
with you?" "Yeah."
End of discussion, end of friendship. I was "shoving my religion down
his throat."
|
Thought that might have been the case when I asked. People who are so far
from God that they are confused about their sexual orientation generally
feel no particular obligation to their word. |

It takes Faith, Commitment and good works don't hurt, just don't brag
about them.

Wrong.
OK Vera's: View Bow before Vera, agree to everything Vera Says (in
my opinion)
OK Matts View.: Have Faith in Christ our Lord, Have a commitment to
God and Gods word, and good works don't hurt, just don't brag
about them.

My point has been made Vera
Be Well
Matt
"My brothers, if one of you should wander from
the truth and someone should bring him back,
remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the
error of his way will save him from death and
cover over a multitude of sins." |

Well, considering your physical size, I can now see why you would need
a baseball bat to harm anyone. However, with those wimpy little arms
of yours, do you honestly think you could even *lift*, let alone
swing, a "10 lb baseball bat"?

The retard couldn't even find a baseball bat that big, he has inflated
that like his IQ, by a factor of 3!

And the last thing Jesus said to the apostles in concert was to go get a
sword, also if a group did not listen, give them the middle finger salute
(shake your sandal).
Too bad people can't read the entire bible and listen to what Jesus, The
Christ, said to do after He left. |
