as though there is some magic formula for salvation, the offer of
some patented ' sinners prayer ' is just another false gospel designed
for someone to save themselves with good works... and, for someone who
offered it to him, could get some glory as well.
such an idea stems from a very wrong interpretation of Ro. 10:9.
" that if you confess with your mouth Jesus [as] Lord, and believe
in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved "
Paul is writing to the elect. Ro. 1:5,6 he is not writing to the
unbeliever... God does not hear the prayers of the unbeliever.
" The LORD is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the
righteous." Pv. 15:29
but here we have people offering a sinners prayer, as though such a
thing is heard by God... their " prayer is sin. " Ps. 109:7
its just that old idea of doing the right thing first so God is put
in a position to save. it's the same as saying... first, i muster up
faith, say the right thing, and by so doing, thereafter God saves.
the " you shall be saved " of Ro. 10:9 refers to moment when the
true believer is taken up into the actual glory of the actual presence
of Jesus Christ... in heaven... Paul is writing to believers... never
the reprobate who does not seek for God except through phony gospels
such as some patented sinners prayer which do not save.
this is nothing more than a gospel designed for the smart, excluding
all persons born mentally incoherent, all fetuses, all deaths at
birth, all people turned vegetables by car accidents and disease.
John illustrates the same doctrine as Paul does in Ro. 10:9 when he
says :
" If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive
us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. " 1Jo 1:9
the " we " John is referring to are the elect. the non-elect are
" without hope and without God in the world. " Eph. 2:12 how is it
then that the unbeliever saves himself ? |
