as Catholic missionaries went about through Europe they tried to wipe
out "pagan" holidays... such as those practiced by the Celtics...
which the Celtics called Samhain... a festival celebrating the dead...
the missionaries succeeded in effecting major transformations in it.
In 601 A.D. Pope Gregory the First issued a now famous edict to his
missionaries concerning the native beliefs and customs of the peoples
he hoped to convert to Catholicism.
Rather than try to obliterate native peoples' customs and beliefs, the
pope instructed his missionaries to use them: if a group of people
worshipped a tree, rather than cut it down, he advised them to
consecrate it to Christ and allow its continued worship.
this sort of practice condones any such pagan concepts and rituals as
long as its consecrated to Christ.
to take the matter to its fullest potential the worship of pagan gods
became part and parcel of everyday practice in the RCC... hence the
worship of ' saints ' , Mary, statues of every sort, the finger of
John the Baptist and so on, and an ever changing belief system.
it is no small wonder since the beginning of the RCC only the rich
were ever appointed to be pastors and bishops and popes since only
these could read... being wealthy enough to be formally educated.
with this came the abuses of payment for forgiveness of sins
( indulgences ) and an ever increasing wealth of monies squeezed from
the ignorant by playing into their superstitious beliefs.
a ' patron ' saint cure-all for every ill under heaven was thus
condoned.
thanks be to God Almighty who gives His Spirit to His chosen ones and
directs them away from such blasphemous heresies. |
