What is your hope for eternal life?
For many it is to follow their religion "enough"
or to just do more good than bad.
Their hope is at most only partly Christ
and the rest their determination and rituals.
But for relatively few their hope
is not them at all, not in the least.
Their hope is Christ their Righteous Substitute
who has taken their place to give them life.
That is the hope the Lord once again
showed so powerfully to the world
when he began the Protestant movement
by showing that he alone and not us at all
is our righteousness for eternal life.
Is it possible to repent, make a commitment,
surrender, be baptized, take the sacrament,
without trusting in that at all to save you?
Yes, if you know that Christ not you at all
is your entire righteousness for salvation
so that you have eternal life.
