Dear brethren,

is the good Lord omni-potent?

If God is omni-potent (=all powerful), can He then create a stone which is
so heavy that He Himself cannot lift it up?

If we answer yes, He can, then we must ask ourselves why after creating this
stone, since He is almighty, He cannot lift it up.

If we answer no, then have we've proven to ourselves that God is not
almighty?

What is your answer?

Sir:

Why do you place God in your anthropomorphic box?

God can create anything, move anything lift anything and unmake anything.
If indeed he is all-powerful, He can make anything, and by definition, can
move or lift anything. Your question is a non-sequitur, or, as Mr Spock
would say, "Illogical."

Frederick Buechner once said, in definition of theology, that one wonders if
dung beetles look at humans and try to understand our ways, and asks if they
call it humanology.

You do not understand God because you cannot. Your mind is not big enough.
Neither is mine.

Dear Becky Jones,
our minds cannot understand God. True. Yet, why then are we to believe
in the power or the existence of a God which we can never understand?
The omni-potency of God is one vital aspect in the nature of God.

How can it be that on the one side we have a mind and a soul and a
spirit, and yet the understanding of God cannot be contained within one
of these three?

Also, remember the Proverbs advise us to acquire unto ourselves, amongst
other, understanding:

Prov 2:1-2
My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to
understanding;
(KJV)

Prov 3:4
So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and
man.
(KJV)

Prov 4:1
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know
understanding.
(KJV)

Prov 4:5
Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the
words of my mouth.
(KJV)

Prov 4:7
7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy
getting get understanding.
(KJV)

Acts 8:30
30 Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah
the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked.
(NIV)

Therefore, I would like to have an understanding of the omni-potency of
our mighty Creator. That's a very legitimate desire.

"You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free!"

As long as we do not know the answers to simple questions we remain in
the darkness of ignorance.

So, can God create a stone which is so heavy that He Himself can not
lift up?

Servus!

It's more important to follow God's commands. Solomon wasn't simply wise, he
used his wisdom. Asking questions like this do nothing to help us know more
about God. If you want to know more about God, feed His sheep.
