|

It is stated in Revelation 2:17 that all men will be given a new name in
heaven known only to him who receives it. So there is no chance of us here
on earth ever calling out the name of Mary or the Saints for they now have a
new name known only to them. This was stated in the Bible to head off our
desire to worship those who have passed on to be with God. It is clear that
to worship a dead person with his earthly name is utterly fruitless and very
wrong. This is a point that will have to be addressed in order to vindicate
the Catholic Church's belief in worshiping Mary and the Saints.
You cannot reach the dead since you do not know their new name in heaven.
The worship of Mary or the Saints, or anyone else is therefore impossible!

You can worship whoever or whatever you want to. The myriad of pagan
denominations proves that well enough. Perhaps a more accurate statement
would be that you cannot gain salvation or Heaven other than through Christ
and praying to the saints is therefore as fruitless as it is wrong. |

Scott,
How wonderful to find you at this site too! We need more like you.
How's school? I keep thinking that one of these days when we're in Ft.
W I'll stop and say I need to meet this guy. Who knows maybe you'll be
our next "student" pastor. That would be neat.
I was raised Catholic, left the church over 30 years ago. If you're
Catholic it's not hard at all to honor Mary and pray to the saints. We
were never taught to "worship" Mary but to honor her, as she was chosen
to be our Lord's mother. The only saint I can remember them ever
pushing on us was St. Michael, he is suppose to be the greatest of the
angels. I never was a good Catholic, asked too many questions, like why
does paying money help get your loved ones out of purgetory? By the
time I was 16 Father had had enough of me I think, he didn't say alot
when I left the parish.
Enough rambling for tonite, come back often.

True, Scott. Praying to Mary is fruitless. It is the same old crutch
perpetuated by the Catholic Church in order to keep their members in
the dark and in the pews.
God's peace, brother,

Ya never konw, I should be looking at a vicarage in about 2007 or so. |
depending on what happens. The BA is going well, got my first B which
dropped the GPA to 3.71, but I'm sure I can remedy that soon enough.
The question that is bigger than "how does money get relatives out of
Purgatory" is,
how do you show Purgatory even exists. Scripturally mind you.
I exchanged quite a few emails with a Catholic gentleman in England about a
year
ago and asked him just that. I also asked him if would also send me 5 or so
verses before and after where he thouhgt the answer was so I could have it
in context. This was because the Lutherans do not have those books in the
canon.
I looked over what he sent me and did not find that it justified a belief in
purgatory.
Never mind all the bad theology behind it.
As for the saints, the gentleman explained that they weren't praying TO the
saints, per se, so much as they were ASKING the saints to pray FOR THEM.
When I asked him how he explained trying to talk to the dead it sort of fell
apart.
Regarding coming back, I try to look in here twice daily. Sometimes I don't
but
most times I do. So of the overly crazy stuff I simply ignore. And let me
know,
off the group, if you are ever out this way and perhaps we could get
together.
Peace be with you. |
