|
|
These are my sermon notes from our (2/22/2003) service
entitled Jesus Is The Father.
The audio should be available at http://www.prerapture.org/audio
1 Corinthians 2:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew:
for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of
glory.
Jesus Christ is the Lord of Glory.
John 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with
you, and yet hast
thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the
Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
Jesus Christ is God the Father, in person, manifest in the flesh.
1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of
godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the
Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on
in the world, received up into glory.
If Jesus Christ was not God the Father how could these verses be
in the Bible.
Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the
ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to
come, the Almighty.
Revelation 1:11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the
last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the
seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna,
and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto
Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.
Revelation 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and
Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is
athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
Revelation 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the
end, the first and the last.
Jesus Christ is the creator of the Earth. Jesus Christ spoke the
world into existence.
John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not
any thing made that was made.
John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him,
and the world knew him not.
And, just something to think about, don't expect to find a clean
shaven man looking like Caesar on the Great White Throne.
Isaiah 50:6 I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them
that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and
spitting.
Revelation 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that
sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away;
and there was found no place for them.
Though we humans (created in God's image) have body, soul and
spirit we are not each "three separate persons". Though God
manifested Himself as "Father, Son, and Holy Ghost" he is not
"three separate persons".
1) God is a Spirit.
John 4:24 God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must
worship
[him] in spirit and in truth.
2) God is holy.
I Samuel 2:2 [There is] none holy as the LORD: for [there is]
none
beside thee: neither [is there] any rock like our God.
3) God is a "Holy Spirit".
4) Jesus is the "Spirit of truth"
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the
life:
no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
5) Jesus was "dwelling with them" and promised to be "in them".
John 14:17 [Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot
receive,
because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him;
for he
dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
6) The "comforter" is the "Spirit of Christ"
John 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
7) The "Spirit of Christ" is the "Holy Spirit" is the "Spirit of
Truth"
John 14:26 But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the
Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and
bring
all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
8) The Spirit of God visited His creation robed in flesh as the
"Son".
I Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of
godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the
Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on
in the world, received up into glory.
9) The fullness of God is in Jesus Christ
Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead
bodily.
Colossians 2:10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of
all
principality and power:
10) Jesus IS the "everlasting Father".
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given:
and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall
be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting
Father, The Prince of Peace.
11) Those who believe that Jesus is a "separate person" from the
"Father" don't really know Jesus at all.
John 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with
you, and
yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath
seen the
Father; and how sayest thou [then], Shew us the Father?
Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image
of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Now when we, a society who are all created in the image of God
encounter one who walks among us who is three separate persons,
we lock them up for their good
and the good of society, right?
There is a commandment in the Word of God for us to know
something, for us to
be aware of something and it is the FIRST of all the
commandments.
Mark 12:28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them
reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them
well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
Mark 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the
commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
There is a dire warning against believing in the trinity.
Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy
and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments
of the world, and not after Christ.
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all
principality and power:
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made
without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh
by the circumcision of Christ:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with
him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised
him from the dead.
13 ¶ And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of
your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven
you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against
us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing
it to his cross;
15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew
of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
The true Oneness Apostolic Pentecostal Holiness Christian will
not be ashamed.
The others, well...
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the
abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and
idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which
burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Hebrews 2:3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great
salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and
was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

How can you know anything from the Bible with any certainty? Just take the
story of the resurrection for example.
Jesus died on Friday. The Sabbath day began at 6:00 Friday evening......
Luke 23:52-54 "This man [Joseph] went unto Pilate, and begged the body of
Jesus. And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a
sepulcher that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid. And
that day was the preparation, and the Sabbath drew on."
Mr 15:39 So when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that He cried
out like this and breathed His last, he said, "Truly this Man was the Son of
God!"
Mr 15:40 There were also women looking on from afar, among whom were Mary
Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the Less and of Joses, and Salome,
Mr 15:41 who also followed Him and ministered to Him when He was in Galilee,
and many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.
Mr 15:42 Now when evening had come, because it was the Preparation Day, that
is, the day before the Sabbath,
Mr 15:43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who was himself
waiting for the kingdom of God, coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate
and asked for the body of Jesus.
So he was dead three days........
Mr 8:31 And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many
things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be
killed, and after three days rise again.
Day 1: Friday evening to Saturday evening
Day 2: Saturday evening to Sunday evening
Day 3: Sunday evening to Monday evening.
He had to rise after Monday evening.
Yet he arose on Sunday.....
Mr 16:9 Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared
first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons.
Confused?
***********************************************
Let's see now, they came to the tomb as the day began to dawn, after the sun
had risen, while it was still dark.....
Mt 28:1 Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn,
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.
Mr 16:2 Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came
to the tomb when the sun had risen.
Joh 20:1 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb
early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away
from the tomb.

Well, we know that in the first century thinking that when counting "three
days" one counts all three days. Which would be Friday, Saturday, Sunday
counting as the three days. There is no good reason for one to project
modern ways of reckoning time back into the first century and then faulting
them for not counting time "properly" (i.e., the way we do 2,000 years
later). Do you think that such an obvious inconsistency would have gone
overlooked by the early author and his audience?
The first day of the week was, of course, Sunday. The reason that
Christians began to worship on Sunday, rather than the Jewish Sabbath, was
that it was the day that Jesus arose from the dead.

We essentially have different sequences of several events in each of the
respective Gospel accounts. The same holds true for a number of events
during Passover week. Logical analysis establishes that the Gospel accounts
cannot be logically reconciled as being a literal moment by moment
transcription of events. Therefore, an analysis of scripture does not
support the Fundamentalist interpretation of scripture in the insistence
that it is historically and scientifically accurate in every detail.
However, most of Christianity is not Fundamentalist anyway. Only a relative
small portion of American Christianity is Fundamentalist and insists upon
that very limited interpretation.
Rather the Gospels were transmitted first orally, and only later written
down as remembered by the participants and eyewitnesses. The purpose of the
Gospels are NOT to give us a precise transcription of events, but rather are
given in order to tell the story of God's working among mankind to
accomplish His purpose of salvation. Like any good story, it isn't the
precise details that are important, but rather the primary themes and
purpose of the author. In the case of scripture the primary theme is God's
eternal goodness and Holiness, and His plan for the salvation of mankind.
There was a lot about "what specifically happened" that was omitted from the
Gospel accounts. Those things we will never know.
John 20:30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his
disciples, which are not written in this book:
John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the
Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his
name.
