I have an idea for a ribbon campaign project that I would like to share. I
would like to see our churches and schools of faith support and anticipate the
return of Christ by representing and wearing "purple ribbons" as a remembrance
for his death and relief for his glorious return. It is suggested to decorate
our churches (inside and outside) or our front yards with purple ribbons until
the return of Christ. "The purple ribbons represent Jesus return in the sky and
not on the land, and warn about false prophets." The ribbons would definitely
lift the spirits of our churches bringing out their true beauty. Purple is a
very mesmerizing color bringing merriness and calamity to the spirits of the
church and every faithful soul and child awaiting the glorious return of
Christ. It's time to make our churches and world full of merriness once again
with purple ribbons declaring a wonderful event. This project is completely
separate from Advent and Lent.
*Bows can be purchased online. |

Do I really want "merriness and calamity (??)" brought to the spirit of my |
church? Probably not. Keep your purple ribbons. |

A purple ribbon? Let's see, who would see that and understand what the
message meant?
How about this? Why don't we decorate our lawns and churches with
crucifixes (crosses with the crucified Christ on them)... This would let
the world see the severity of their sin which sent Jesus to the cross. Even
more, it would show people the love of God whereby He gave His Son to die
for us, thereby giving us a confident hope of heaven and eternal life.
Now there is a great idea.
Only problem is, we have Lutherans who are not true Lutherans, they are
Protestants - too worried about getting rid of anything Roman Catholic than
doing anything that might be good right and salutary. They would rather
have a bare cross - claiming it shows the resurrection. How, I have no
clue, as a bare cross is still a symbol of an implement of one of the
cruelest forms of capital punishment ever devised)
What did Paul say? I am determined to know nothing among you except Jesus
Christ, and Him crucified (1 Corinthians 2:2)
If someone asks these questions, here is what is most powerful.
---Show me the love of God? Hold up a crucufix, point to it and say, "God
loved you so much He gave His only begotten Son to die for you so that you
could be with Him eternally."
---How much do I mean to God? Hold up the crucifix, point to it and say,
"You mean enough to Him that He suffered this for you."
---If Christians are God's people, why do they undergo suffering and
persecution? Hold up a crucufix, point to it and say, "If that is what they
did to God's Son, our Lord and Savior, could we, as His followers expect
less?"
---But, I'm not a sinner? Hold up a crucufix, point to it and say, "Oh
really? Then explain this!"
---But, I have to earn my way, do my part, or I cannot have heaven. Hold up
a crucufix, point to it and say, "You mean, Christ didn't do enough to
purchase your entire salvation here?"
I think you get the picture.
Purple ribbons? Let's teach people about the life, suffering, and
sacrificial death. Let us join Paul is saying, "When I came to you,
brothers, I did not come to you with eloquence of superior wisdom as I
proclaimed to you the testimony of God. For I resolved to know nothing
among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified."
Peace of the Lord be with you.

I would agree Todd...
.... but I would also find issues with the ribbon itself. After reading this
message I did a yahoo search on "purple ribbon" and found, not to my
surprise, a plethora of support groups who use a purple ribbon to rally
support and gain momentum for their cause. As true Christians is it wise to
put ourselves in league with man made, humanist organizations? Surely, it's
not wrong to support some groups that use ribbons in their campaigns, but
why should we bring the saving power of Christ for all who believe in Him
down to an earthly level? I agree with Todd. Bear your cross (or crucifix)
and witness to Christ crucified.
In Christ,
Jason

I have a better idea! Instead of a ribbon campaign, let's follow the
historical church year with liturgical colors -- you know, recognizing how
God has worked in the past through His Bride, the church.

I started a similar campaign last year. We wear brown ribbons to convey
the message to "eat shit". |
