Just a quesiton here. I am looking for some information on a Christian
Gnostic view of the last judgement. Can anyone direct me to the writings of
the Gnostics at all? Any thoughts or help would be gratefully appreciated!

I'd suggest http://www.gnosis.org/library.html, the Gnostic Society Library
The Apocryphon of John, the Tripartite Tractate, the Hypostasis of the
Archons, and On the Origin of the World, all speak of three-fold
end-points, if I remember correctly. I know the first two do.
The hylic is judged wormfood, and is obliterated. The psychic is
typically dealt with in an intermediary zone, and may have a choice in
what company it keeps. The spirit is from God and goes back to God.
Interpretation can go along the lines of parts of you, or types of
people. In any case, if a hylic or psychic type of person has no
spirit, then what do they have that is eternal or transcendent of the
cosmos? Nothing. If someone has a soul, well that goes where souls go.
If the nature of a soul is ignorant, well what will bring it merit of
wisdom to associate with the wise?
Seems to me it is more a matter of sorting the reality, declaring the
reality, just saying things are what they are, and what happens to them
is consistent with WHAT they are. A person that is truly of a type, is
what they are. A part of you that is of a certain nature, is what it
is. Judgment points out the truth, and what follows is consistent with
that truth. A key factor in that truth, is the existence of a Spirit,
or the nature of one's soul, which can be explained in numerous ways. |
