Dear Conservative Friend:

Twisting and stretching the Constitution, U.S. District Judge Myron
Thompson overstepped his bounds on Aug. 6 by giving Alabama Chief
Justice Roy Moore until Aug. 20 to remove the two-ton stone etched with
God's Ten Commandments as well as historical quotes that truthfully
point to those laws as the foundation of U.S. jurisprudence.

Justice Moore, who has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to rule on this all-
important matter, will not obey the federal judge's order because:
Quote:
It would grant jurisdiction to a federal court, which is acting beyond
the scope of its lawful jurisdiction;
It would violate his oath of office to the Alabama Constitution, which
specifically declares the state laws to be under God;
It would ratify an unlawful and usurpatious application of the First
Amendment; and most importantly
It would concede that the God of Scripture is not supreme over the
laws of the United States.

Will Justice Moore stand alone? Is he the only Godly man courageous
enough to keep the godless from removing not only the Ten Commandments
from their rightful place in the rotunda of the state judicial center in
Montgomery, but further enforcing coerced freedom FROM religion
throughout our troubled land. Please go to ConservativePetitions.com to
see what is at stake. Here's the address:

With everything Godly about America at risk, join Justice Moore in
taking a bold stand for God, for His Word, for the United States of
America -- for all of us! Rally to his side and help block all attempts
to remove the monument from its rightful place. Sign a petition that
asks for:

Quote:
Gov. Bob Riley to call out the Alabama National Guard to protect the
monument.
Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright to not allow city police to be used in
any attempt to remove the monument.
U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft to not collect any fines assessed
by Judge Thompson to the state of Alabama after Aug. 20.

And consider coming to Montgomery yourself and praying at the monument
to protect its continued display. Stand ready to support those who act
on their own consciences to peacefully and non-violently defend the
moral foundation of American law.

Moore is resolved to see the battle to the end: "To prohibit the
acknowledgment of God upon Whom our justice system is established is to
undermine our entire judicial system," he said. ... "We will defend this
display in the judicial building vigorously. It is an acknowledgment of
a sovereign, holy God whose laws superintend those of man. We will not
retreat from that position, because it is true." Here again is where to
join him:

As Judge Ed Carnes of the 11th Circuit panel correctly said, "... if
Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore's Ten Commandments monument were allowed
to stand, it would mean a massive revision of how the courts have
interpreted the First Amendment for years." Praise God! Let it be so!

Regardless of what any court or judge thinks, the truth cannot be
changed: America's laws always have been and still are based on the Ten
Commandments, and their display is appropriate in courtrooms all across
our land, which still is "under God." We the people must defend the
monument and all other displays and references to God's laws, refusing
to allow any to be removed anywhere for any concocted reason. Sign the
petition, then email Americans all across our nation to help keep the
Ten Commandments. Here's again is where to act:
http://www.everythingimportant.org/viewtopic.php?t=607

P.S. You may not yet realize it, but your faith as a professing
Christian is being put to the test by this lawsuit. Will you stand with
God against worldly authorities who ignore His laws and mock His
servants? Or will you, too, deny God by permitting His authority to be
disrespected not only in Montgomery but in your own community? Show
you're on God's side at:

The real issue is .. will you permit God through Jesus Christ and by His Spirit
to write the principles of His Law upon the tablets of your heart, that you may
thus reflect the holiness thereof in the life which He has given you; rather than
whether or not this engraved rock remains in the Alabama courthouse.

Dear Eugene:

I fail to see how the Ten Commandments are the foundation of the laws
of the USA. Going through them one by one, I can only point to three
or four that our laws are based on:

1. You shall have no other gods before me [the LORD God of Israel].
This law is manifestly not part of the laws of the USA, as anyone is
free to worship--or refrain from worhip--any god or gods they choose.
The LORD God of Israel, a very specific God, is not worshipped by many
people, and this is protected under our laws.

2. You shall not make for yourselfs an idol...
Again, this law is not enforced in the USA, nor was it ever as far as
I know since our Constitution was adopted. You can make an idol and
worship it--that is your right. No where is this prohibited, and it
is protected under the first Amendment.

3. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
Most people don't even KNOW the name of the LORD your God [Yahweh],
but you don't have to respect it according to our laws or
Constitution. There are some anti-profanity laws, and perhaps we'd be
better off if they were enforced (though I doubt it); nevertheless,
blasphemy is not against the law.

4. Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.
There are still some blue laws on the books (not letting people sell
alcohol on Sundays, for example), but (a) Sunday is not the Sabbath
and (b) observing any day as holy never has been a foundational aspect
of US law.

5. Honor your father and your mother.
There are some laws that support the idea that this one might be
considered embodied in US law...a child is subject to the authority of
his or her parents, but that authority is limited (i.e., you abuse
your children and they'll be taken away.) So I'll be generous and
include this as the first of the Ten Commandments in US law.

6. You shall not murder.
Clearly, this is part of US law.

7. You shall not commit adultery.
This one has been greatly eroded, but again I'll be generous and say
this is part of our current law...marriage is still a legal
institution and adultery is considered a betrayal of that trust, and
will go a long way in granting more rights in cases of divorce.

8. You shall not steal.
Yes, part of US law. We're up to 4 of the 10 being part of US law.

9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Clearly part of US law--perjury is a crime here.

10. You shall not covet.
Not part of US law, nor could it be part of any law unless we develop
mind-reading skills. No one can see if I'm coveting my neighbors
goods, and the law frankly doesn't care, unless I act on that and
steal.

I'm not arguing that the 10 Commandments should or should not be the
basis of US law; however, it's clear that only 5 of the 10
commandments are part of our law in any way. Furthermore, none of
these 5 is unique to the Ten Commandments. Nearly all systems of law,
ancient or modern, had those prohibitions. The unique aspects of the
Ten Commandments--worshiping the LORD God of Israel alone, no idols,
not taking the Name of the LORD God [Yahweh] in vain and the Sabbath
are not part of US law.

In Christ,
Daniel

This is a peculiarly Protestant form of what used to be called "Popery".
Somehow, this judge got it into his mind that the graven monument is God, and
removing the graven monument would be the same as removing God.

There is only one kind of popery and it's Catholic. Even when
Seventh-day Adventists practice popery it's Catholic. Of all persons,
Catholics should be able to recognize popery when they see it:

http://www.everythingimportant.org/viewtopic.php?t=302

I'm curious about how Catholics understand the Protestant view of
popery. There is no evidence that the judge has confused the graven
monument with God. But Catholics have worshipped the pope as God. See
Revelation 13:4, http://www.everythingimportant.org/viewtopic.php?t=273

But that's not popery.
