another individual medal for India after she stunned fourth seed Chen
Wang of Hong Kong to move into the quarterfinals of the women's
singles badminton event at the Olympics here today.
Saina 18-year-old badminton sensation meets Maria Kristin Yulianti, in
quarter final who is world number 16 and was part of Indonesia's Uber
Cup runners-up team.

shut out Jun Jaeyoun of the ROK 21-11, 21-12. World No. 2 Lu Lan took
it home in two straight games against Canadian Anna Rice 21-7, 21-12.
Unlike the victorious Chinese, favorite World No. 4 Tine Rasmussen of
Denmark suffered a setback and was ousted by Indonesian Maria Kristin
Yulianti 21-18, 19-21, 14-21. Sixth ranked Wang Cheng of Hong Kong
also got eliminated when she was defeated by World No. 21 Saina Nehwal
of India in a disappointing three games 19-21, 21-11, 11-21.
"I regret because this is my last Olympic Games as I am already 32
years old," Wang said. "I expected I could be the top eight but it's a
pity I could not get my target."
Fifth seed Pi Hongyan of France had a big scare when Japanese Hirose
Eriko took their second game, but Pi quickly came charging back to win
in the decider 21-12, 16-21, 21-6.
