Saint Thomas the Divine on the value of fear!

I have heard many Christians say throughout the years that fear is a bad thing.
Everyone from Doctor Robert Schuler to various gospel singers have said this. I
hear it all the time. This, however, is nonsensical, is not correct and is a
very bad teaching. The fear of God could never be a bad thing!

Fear is, pretty much, a natural emotion in most people, particularly young
children. But what about the fear of Jesus? Is the fear of Jesus a natural
emotion? I find that the vast majority of Christians, that is, from Jesse
Jackson to the Pope, are not afraid of Him. When you try to talk to some
Christians about fear they say, "Perfect love casts out all fear," or something
along this line. The problem with this is that young children do not
understand love. Fear, in fact, is the more basic emotion in little babies. But
what about of God? You would think people didn't fear anything or anyone; in
point of fact, however, most people fear everything from being poor to the dog
down the street.

Fear is the most valuable of all emotions; it can literally save your life.
Fear forms a natural mechanism that can keep us out of all kinds of trouble.
God puts it in us for this reason. The Church and most people just do not
understand its value. The fear of God is the basis of all real intelligence; it
is the only true measure of I.Q.. All other methods of measuring this amount to
nothing.

The fear of God Himself is the beginning of all wisdom and is the only thing in
man that can destroy the works of the devil. He keeps tons of gas and rock
afloat in the universe. He formed the earth by Himself. He sent Jews to their
deaths for breaking the Law. He brought down Pharoah and killed mighty kings.
His power is vast and His wisdom is profound. Why aren't you afraid of that
man! Is your power equal to that of the God of Israel? They that don't
understand that there is such a place as hell and that they can very easily
wind up there will never do the right thing. The fear of Jehovah and Jesus, His
son, leads to better judgement, for the proper way to judge anybody is by what
they stand for, not by the color of their skin or by how much they have or
where they come from!

Now, listen to me! They that fear Jesus keep ALL the gospel, in other words,
not just bits and pieces of it as they like. They that fear Jesus turn the
other cheek; they don't divorce except for the right reason; they love simply
because they are COMMANDED to, not for any other reason, and a host of other
things. A unified mind equals a unified, coherent and holy Church! The
separation that now exits in the Church of Christ must come to an end! If you
are not unified, coherent and Jewish, you don't fear Jesus or me. This is the
only sure truth. If you are truly people of God, you will hear what God says!

The only way you'll ever make a positive difference in the world is to raise
your children to fear as well as love Jesus and do so yourself. After all, if
you do not at least fear Jesus, can you say you are truly wise? This more basic
emotion will save you all from hell! It's a real place; Jesus said so, and you
can go there!

Peace!

Interesting enough, but not so new - if you get into various kinds of
healing - all the way from our own Paganism to the Zen teachings, you start
to feel yourself giving "uncondidional love" this is in no way romantic or
like I love my family - it is a very high emotion that I would describe as
pure prayer.

Of course how can Jesus and god according to the christian teachings be all
forgiving and loving and than literally "put the fear of god into you!" they
can't.

Affraid of Jesus - no bloody way! He was one of the best spiritual teachers
of his time. (And some belive "the pythagorean druid" - read "the rebirth of
druidry" by Philip carr-gomm for more on this. I was also told he may have
studied in Ireland? (and was told by a Christian - so don't say it's my
imagination - nothing to do with me!

Sorry for this diatribe.

Your brother in spirit.

Dafydd.
