Religion was highly persecuted under communism. Churches were stripped of their
valuables and then destroyed or converted to government purposes. There are many
reports of priests being crucified in their own churches, along with the
banishment of the faithful to the gulag. Even though religion existed in the
Soviet Union, it was often only a show put on by the communists to pacify the
complaints of the rest of the world. As a result, religion in contemporary
Russia faces many obstacles.

Many surviving church buildings have been returned to their original owners,
although many are little more than four walls. Of the religious icons available
in 1913, 80% were smuggled out of the country. This devastation of historical
relics, an aspect important to the Russian Orthodox Church, has taken much of
the flavor out of Russian religion. Others, however, have it worse. For example,
the Lutheran church in St. Petersburg was converted into a swimming pool by the
communists and parishioners are working hard to return the building to its
original state.

The years of persecution and the changes in Russian culture have left the
elderly as the strongest bastion of religion. Church service audiences consist
largely of babushki, old ladies, who never gave up the faith.

Bolsheviks turned priests into columns of ice (December 1995)
MOSCOW (Reuter) - A Russian presidential commission has announced that 200,000
clergy were systematically murdered under Soviet rule in a horrific cycle of
crucifixions, scalpings and "bestial tortures." Commission chairman Alexander
Yakovlev, presenting the report at a news conference, seemed unconcerned that it
might deter electors from voting communist or nationalist in parliamentary
elections on December 17.

"If it has an influence, I will be very satisfied," he said.

The report by the Commission for the Rehabilitation of the Victims of Political
Repression also found that another 500,000 religious figures suffered
persecution in the decades after Vladimir lenin's Bolsheviks seized power.

"documents relate how clergymen, monks, nuns were crucified on royal gates and
shot in the basements of the Cheka (secret police), scalped, strangled, drowned
and submitted to other bestial tortures," he said.

....I was especially shocked by accounts of priest turned into columns of ice in
winter...But that's not all, there were crucifixions...It was total cruelty.

He said hundreds of people were shot for not giving up church property, and only
a fraction of the proceeds were spent on the poor as the authorities had
promised.

....He said that of the 48,000 churches in Russia before the 1917 revolution,
only 7000 remained by 1969, with destruction of Islamic and Jewish religious
buildings in similar proportion.

"It's a tragic story which has not provoked repentance and which has not been
properly heard," said Mr. Yakovlev.

Looks to me as if the ADL is saying Jews did better under communism and as the

(Toronto, February 3, 1999...) B'nai Brith Canada's League for Human Rights
applauds the decision made by the B.C. Human Rights Commission involving
businessman Harry Abrams. Mr. Abrams took both the North Shore News and Doug
Collins to court over four columns written between January and April 1994. This
is the second of two human rights complaints lodged against the North Shore News
and Doug Collins in 1994. The first complaint was lodged by the Canadian Jewish
Congress against Doug Collins involving a single article criticizing the Academy
Award winning film, Schindler's List.

The tribunal in the Canadian Jewish Congress case upheld the constitutionality
of the law under which the charges had been brought. However, asserting the
article was “...obviously antisemitic...” and “presents Jews in a negative
light, as powerful propagandists and profiteers, and depicts, in grossly
inaccurate terms, the extent and victimization in the Holocaust...,” the
tribunal concluded the column was not antisemitic enough to warrant action under
the B.C. Human Rights Code...

“That the B.C. Human Rights Commission decided that the articles written by
Collins were antisemitic enough to warrant action under the law is a huge
victory to those who fight racism, homophobia and antisemitism in the media,”
said Frank Dimant, Executive Vice President of B'nai Brith Canada. “The message
that the Commission is sending to the Canadian public is that it recognizes the
importance of victim impact when hate or racial stereotypes are disseminated
under the guise of freedom of the press. We will, continue to increase our

For the purposes of analyzing the impact of the telephonic messages within the
meaning of s.13(1) of the Canadian Human Rights Act, this Tribunal accepts the
definitions of "hatred" and "contempt" applied by the Tribunal in Canadian Human
Rights Commission et al v. The Western Guard Party and John Ross Taylor, July
20, 1979 (The Taylor Case). Furthermore we accept the concept of the word
"expose" as applied in the Taylor Case.

In the Taylor decision the Tribunal stated at page 28:

"Hatred" is defined in the Oxford English dictionary (1971 Edition) as:
"active dislike, detestation, enmity, ill-will, malevolence."
and "contempt" is defined as:
"the condition of being contemned or despised; dishonour, disgrace."
In addition the Concise Oxford Dictionary of Current English (1990 Edition)
includes in its definition of "Contempt":

"a feeling that a person...is beneath consideration or worthless or deserving
scorn or extreme reproach".

In the Taylor case at page 29, the Tribunal dealt with the word expose in the
context of s.13(1) as follows:

"Expose" is an unusual word to find in legislation designed to control hate
propaganda. More frequently... the reference is to matter which is abusive or
offensive, or to statements which serve to incite or promote hatred.

"Incite" means to stir up; "promote" means to support actively,

"Expose" is a more passive word which seems to indicate that an active effort of
intent on the part of the communicator or a violent reaction on the part of the
recipient are not envisaged. To expose to hatred also indicates a more subtle
and indirect type of communication than vulgar abuse or overtly offensive
language. "Expose" means: to leave a person or thing unprotected; to leave
without shelter or defence; to lay open (to danger, ridicule, censure, etc.). In
other words, if one is creating the right condition for hatred to flourish,
leaving the identifiable group open or vulnerable to ill-feelings or hostility,
if one is putting them at risk of being hated in a situation where hatred or
contempt are inevitable, one then falls within s.13(1) of the Canadian Human
Rights Act.

In analyzing the messages to determine whether they constitute "matter that is
likely to expose a person or persons to hatred or contempt..." the Tribunal was
assisted by the evidence and reports of two expert witnesses, Dr. Susan Ehrlick,
Ph.D., an associate professor of linguistics at York University and Dr. Frances
Henry, Ph.D. a professor of social anthropology at York University.

Dr. Ehrlick did a linguistic analysis of the messages and prepared a report
which was entered as an exhibit (Exhibit HR-30).

The methodology employed in her analysis was to examine:

(1) Implicit Meaning (ie. the indirect expression of opinions in an attempt to
avoid incurring a racist or hateful label).
(2) Underlying Semantic Strategies: "A semantic strategy is a goal- directed
property of discourse usually accomplished through various functional moves"
"... discrediting political groups or policies representing minority groups can
have the effect of discrediting minority groups even though the groups
themselves are not directly attacked" p.3.
(3) Surface Structure: Lexical Choice and Syntactic Structure.
This is simply an analysis of the choice and variation of the words to describe
individuals and events and the sentence patterns used to organize these words.

Dr. Henry also prepared a report on her analysis of the messages, which was
entered as an exhibit (Exhibit HR-32).

In her report, Dr. Henry identified 10 major themes, set out in three
categories, which recur throughout the messages:

(1) Themes Which Promote Hatred:
(e) Anti-Semitic Prejudice
(g) Anti-Communist Ideology

IOW in Canada if you use the Internet and post messages to USENET or have a web
page which is either "anti-semitic" (in the opinions of the Jews) or
"anti-communist" then you are propagating hate and could possibly find yourself
before the Human Rights Tribunal!!!

"Hate Literature" in Canada (at the behest of Jews who don't like being reminded

Bible declared hate literature
Human Rights Tribunal fines advertiser for quoting the Bible

Hugh Owens may well be the first Canadian ever fined for quoting the Bible. But

Posting such posts as this one you are reading would get me hauled before a
court if I were a Canadian citizen! The truth be damned-- they must suppress
"hate!" Since when is truth "hate"?

The Canadians are already ruling certain Bible passages promote hate so I guess
quoting such scripture as these would get you fined/jailed in Canada too in
coming days:

The Apostle Paul says much in two Bible scriptures:

1 Thessalonians 2:14,15 (English-NIV):
14 For you, brothers, became imitators of God's churches in Judea,
which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own countrymen the
same things those churches suffered from the Jews,
15 who killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets and also drove us out.
They displease God and are hostile to all men.

Notice the fine points made by the Apostle Paul in this little bit of
scripture!

He brought out in two verses:
1) " those churches suffered from the Jews" Those sweet harmless
little Jews were committing "hate crimes" against Christians!
2) "They displease God.." The Temple is still in ruins as a testament
to that fact! Undeniable wouldn't you say? And last BUT certainly not
least by any stretch of the imagination:
3) "They (Jews) are hostile to all men."
4) "the Jews, who killed the Lord Jesus"

Other Bible writers also say it was the Jews who killed Jesus:

The Apostle Peter testifies: "Men of Israel.. The God of Abraham and of Isaac
and Jacob, the God of our forefathers, has glorified his Servant, Jesus, whom
YOU, for your part, delivered and disowned before Pilate's face, when he had
decided to release him. Yes, YOU disowned that holy and righteous one, and YOU
asked for a man, a murderer, to be freely granted to YOU, whereas YOU killed the
Chief Agent of life. But God raised him up from the dead..." Acts 3: 12-15

Disciple Stephen testifies: "Which one of the prophets did your forefathers not
persecute? Yes, they killed those who made announcement in advance concerning
the coming of the righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers YOU have become."
Acts 7: 52 This was from the speech Stephen gave the Jews about all of their
transgressions just before he (Stephen) got stoned to death by Jews who could
not contradict what he was telling them. Jews have quite a Biblical record as
killing people or having them harassed by government when their sins, hypocrisy,
and evil are held up to their faces!

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles
among the people.
9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue

From the above passages we learn:
a) [T]here arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue
of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia
and of Asia, disputing with Stephen
b) Stephen "spoke things they couldn't refute" as recorded with the words:
"they were not able to resist the wisdom.."
c) The Pharisees then: "stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one
accord, And cast him out of the city, and stoned him...."
d) Stephen blamed the Pharisaic Jews of the synagogue for the death of Jesus.

I might as well throw this in seeing how I mentioned "Hate Crimes."
Historically, who do most people think were more brutal- Nazis or
Pharisees?

Acts 9:22-23 (English-RSV):

22 But Saul increased all the more in strength, and confounded the
Jews who lived in Damascus by proving that Jesus was the Christ.
23 When many days had passed, the Jews plotted to kill him....

Acts 14:2,19 (English-RSV)

2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their
minds against the brethren.
19 But Jews came there from Antioch and Ico'nium; and having persuaded
the people, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city,
supposing that he was dead.

Acts 23:12-15 (English-RSV)

12 When it was day, the Jews made a plot and bound themselves by an
oath neither to eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.
13 There were more than forty who made this conspiracy.
14 And they went to the chief priests and elders, and said, "We have
strictly bound ourselves by an oath to taste no food till we have
killed Paul.
15 You therefore, along with the council, give notice now to the
tribune to bring him down to you, as though you were going to
determine his case more exactly. And we are ready to kill him before
he comes near."

[NOTE: Acts 23: 15 (English-NIV) council is rendered as Sanhedrin:
Now then, you and the Sanhedrin petition the commander to bring him
before you on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about
his case. We are ready to kill him before he gets here.]

We all know who these Jews were; they were adherents if the Pharisees
and the Sanhedrin was the Pharisees' "court."

Such scriptures as above will be ruled as "hate speech" in coming days in Canada
as well and I won't be surprised when the same movement hits America!!!
