The rain softly touched the forest of innocent vitality. The beautiful
scenery appeared deeper in silence where existence meandered on a
sacred path of peace and tranquillity. In the cosmic ocean, waves of
matters have been impermanently created in different forms, and when
destroyed, all forms return to the emptiness of silence. Meditative
living is sustaining an empty mind of attentive observation, in which

Greetings Dr. Tuan T. Ho,
Just listening to a few of the clips you've offered.
The music is soothing..., easy to meditate to.
Are you the composer?
Jim
Thanks Jim, for your kind feedback!
Yes, I've done various things including science, philosophy,
meditation, and music compositions.

Greetings Julian!
It is natural to raise funds for any type of endeavors including
scientific and humanitarian works...
Begging for dollars may be natural for you but
the teachings of the Buddha go against the stream
and such money grubbing is rejected.
Please keep your ignorant comments to your own benefits...
No.- Hide quoted text -

My Dear Julian,
The Buddha, with his monks, did beg for food/money everyday (on
regular schedule) in order to survive upon teaching his Dharma to the
World...
It's only natural, isn't it?!?
Your OPINION has been noted
along with the total lack of evidence to back it up..
So, please go back and study the history of the Buddha and remove the
dust of your ignorance, so at least, you yourself may benefit from
it...
"Although the Vinaya specifies a prohibition on accepting and handling
gold and silver, the real spirit of it is to forbid use and control over
funds, whether these are bank notes or credit cards. The Vinaya even
prohibits a monk from having someone else receive money on his behalf.
In practical terms, monasteries are financially controlled by lay
stewards, who then make open invitation for the Sangha to ask for what
they need, under the direction of the Abbot. A junior monk even has to
ask an appointed agent (generally a senior monk or Abbot) if he may take
up the stewards' offer to pay for dental treatment or obtain medicines,
for example. This means that as far as is reasonably possible, the
donations that are given to the stewards to support the Sangha are not
wasted on unnecessary whims.
If a layperson wishes to give something to a particular monk, but is
uncertain what he needs, he should make an invitation. Any financial
donations should not be to a monk but to the stewards of the monastery,
perhaps mentioning if it's for a particular item or for the needs of a
certain monk. For items such as travelling expenses, money can be given
to an accompanying anagarika (dressed in white) or accompanying
layperson, who can then buy tickets, drinks for a journey or anything
else that the monk may need at that time. It is quite a good exercise in
mindfulness for a layperson to actually consider what items are
necessary and offer those rather than money."

My dear Julian,
You're being "too innocent" to follow the human rules in the world of
religions...
The Buddha never did make such rules...even his own Dharma was said to
be temporary, impermanent, not really true Dharma (in his words)!
So, how could human rules remain to be true in the world of Buddhism
(compared to the Buddha's Dharma)?!?
Only if you're "ignorant" enough to follow such rules...
I note your abject failure to provide any evidence whatsoever
to backup your claim that...
"The Buddha, with his monks, did beg for food/money everyday (on
regular schedule) in order to survive upon teaching his Dharma to the
World..."
I bought a living chicken, a bag of rice and some black dal to a
family wrecked by poverty begging in the street here a couple of days
ago. There is no doubt in my mind that they were buddhas. It was the
daughter that wanted the chicken though. Parvati, aged four. She
stated her need for meat clearly, and her teaching of the Dharma was
exellent, in my opinion. So of course...
Long live the buddhas
|
Well done, Little Shell! But I'm surprised to learn that you have
whole families wrecked by poverty in the UK, begging in the streets. I
thought you had some kind of welfare system like most of the rest of
Europe. Or am I mistaken, and you live somewhere else?

This strife started over you asking remuneration for shipping cds.
Obviously the blank cds cost money and mailing costs money and the
time to record them if it interferes with work costs money...
Julian's point is not open to debate : The Buddha specified that the
dharma was free, in no
uncertain terms, never to be charged for. These days there is a bit of
a gray line as translators and publishing companies usually (but not
always) sell books to support further
translations.
Point of fact - monks are allowed to beg for food twice a day
etc...and - no, no one is allowed
to sell the dharma for profit. Even Tantric offerings are nothing like
that - when Marpa came
from Tibet and offered the Indian Naropa bags of gold dust with such
an idea Naropa took up
the gold dust and threw it into the wind. The dharma cannot be bought
or sold. Covering costs
for making the dharma available is okay, but one cannot refuse sharing
the dharma if it's a
question of wealth or poverty...if the there is a media to make it
free then do so...
Not judging you - a friend on the path.
