Good.
However, did you recognise it consciously without prompting?
I did not. In my case, I found the mottled background
pleasant but I did not see the word until prompted.

I've been doing quite a bit of research on subliminal tech, all the way from
simple pics like the one on the site to creating a video that modulates the mag
fields on a CRT to affect the brain of anyone sitting close (Persinger style).
I'll add some MP3 stuff next as pleasant background music...

Ah. You mean the extremely faint "ODIN" used as the background? |

I went looking for something in the photograph first -- because you
mentioned it. Then I noticed something odd about the background.
|
Interestingly, most people who have been put into a deep hypnotic trance could
probably tell that straight away if asked.

Wow. Google took more than 12 *hours* to post that. |

Recently, a script from Doug Freyburger arrived, in which they said:

:> is Mother, the Corps is Father.
:
: Checking: Is there a non-Babylon-5 source for that or

Isn't it a USMC unofficial saying, which JMS borrowed?
/me really isn't sure, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I thought it was a spoof on the part of JMS rather than a quote. |

I was wondering about that.
The display needs a genuine contrast ratio of better than 256:1
That's not a problem for CRTs.

If only CRTs weren't so big... I drool over lightweight LCD screens but |
can't tolerate the loss of visual quality and flexibility. With the
gamma set correctly on my 1998 Sony VAIO Trinitron, the subliminal shows
up perfectly.

And stiff competition from old technology that does the job better than
the new stuff. I have an even older Gateway EV700 monitor that does
just as well.

LCDs still have some way to go before they are as good as CRTs for detailed
artwork. Still, the latest LCDs can quite easily manage 800:1 contrast ratios at
50Hz refresh, which is good enough for most people. Maybe by the time LCDs are
good enough they will be on the verge of replacement by OLEDs or something...
Having said that, there's probably little point in doing subtle subliminal stuff
if the monitor can't display it properly. Maybe I should have it play a hacked
MP3 or tweak the HTML/Java(script) to flash higher contrast backgrounds or pics
for a short time...
