Resolutions
It is that time of the year again. Do you have your pencil and paper ready?
You are probably wondering what for? It is time for you to make your New
Year's Resolutions. Before you do so allow me to caution you. Vows,
promises, resolutions often turn into discouragement, frustration, and lies.
This is the time you are going to quit smoking, this is the time you are
going to lose weight, this is the time you are going to have a better
relationship with your family. If you are going to make these resolutions
for the New Year, why not take care of these issues in your life before the
New Year, in other words take care of them now, or do not even make the
resolutions at all. The Bible is very direct when it comes to vows and
promises. In the past if you would make a vow or promise and you did not
keep your word, you often were stoned to death. I am glad that those
standards are not upheld today. I know each of us have been caught in a
"little white lie" one time or another. So how do we get around making
these resolutions? If there are things in your life that you want to
change, make a list and plan out a strategy on how you can positively make
the changes. Let's look at some examples. You want to quit smoking. First
of all I would consult your doctor, nicotine withdraw can be difficult on
the body. Your doctor may put you on a nicotine regiment to wean you off
the smoking and in return you may be more successful. How about that weight
loss thing? You can you see by my picture that I am a diet guru, NOT!! But
I have been off and on so many diets that I could write a book. I think I
will call it, "How To Fail On Your Diet Successfully". But seriously once
again consult your doctor. Your doctor can give you a diet that will help
you to have success and have that success in a healthy manner. I have
consulted my doctor yet, so I guess the newspaper won't have to change my
picture any time soon. Now how about that relationship thing with your
family. The problems that we have with our families are not always, "their
problems". Some times we need to take a good hard look in the mirror. If
you need to change the man in the mirror, only you can do that. There are
things that get in the way of repairing relationships. Grudges, unkind
words, actions are just to name a few. King David ask God to search his
heart and see if there is any wicked ways there. Sometimes there are things
in our lives that we are just not will to give up. If you aren't willing to
give them up, then you can't expect to have good relationships with those
around you. Most family members aren't that bad, it is us that need to make
some adjustments in our behavior. Have you thought about what the new year
is going to bring? Better health, better financial stability, more family
time, along with the help of God you can obtain these things. God has
promised to help us in our time of need. One thing I would encourage is
more time in church and in the word of God. Several people in our church
are doing "Through The Bible In A Year". A Bible reading schedule that will
help you read the entire Bible in one year's time. I would encourage you to
look for ministry opportunities. Whenever we do work for the Lord you know
that it can't be in vain. Well shall I say, Until Next Year.Happy New Year
and God Bless. |
