One of the many reasons why I'm a vegetarian.

However, when I mentioned this here, you screeched at me "Eat meat! It
won't hurt you!" or some such nonsense. Changing your tune?

If you don't want animals to suffer before they are killed or while they are
being killed buy your meat from Muslim butchers (except you can't get pork).

I had heard that. I don't know of any local Muslim butchers.

Do you have a Jewish community in your area? If so, try a Jewish butcher's.
The method of slaughter is very similar to Muslim, but even a
correctly-slaughtered animal has parts which Jews aren't permitted to eat,
which are sold to non-Jewish customers. IIRC that includes the hindquarters,
which non-Jews usually consider a preferred cut of meat anyway.

What in the world does finding a kosher butcher have to do with being
"rich and famous"?

I kind of doubt if a Kasruth observant Jew would consider anything
halal to be acceptable. FYI: the OU (U inside the circle) is just
one of the symbols used to indentify Kosher food. However, the OU and
the K are probably the most recognized and widely used.

 Oh, good grief!

   It's an old expression, Kelly.

Okay...but what does it have to do with finding a kosher butcher? Are
you in the habit of saying "...when I'm rich and famous" in reply to
questions that have nothing to do with being "rich and famous"?

A Muslim girl I worked with told me the k is not as acceptable to Muslims as
the ou is.

I remember reading something 10 years (or so) ago in an orthodox
periodical about the "K" being place inappropriately on some food
products. Could be why.

As I understand it, the OU symbol means the product is kosher according to a
general Orthodox standard, whereas the K means only that it has been

from one rabbi to another).

OU represents the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations and it is
just one of many groups that certify foods as kosher.
