way back in 1618 the Synod of Dort met to consider doctrines
espoused by the followers of Jacob Arminius. and after 154 sessions
which lasted over 7 months it was concluded by the members of the
Synod, that the position held by Arminius were heretical.

Arminianism forms the backbone of today's modern Fundamentalism,
Evangelicalism, Pentecostalism and such denominational offshoots.

the key element in this great meeting at Dordrecht was that both
parties were to support their positions from Holy Scripture.

the Arminians would not, repeat, would not abide by this rule of
proving their points of doctrine from Holy Scripture and left the
meeting. they made the challenge but caved in when settling their
claims were met by the Word of God.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synod_of_dort

the Arminians believe in free-will, conditional election, universal
atonement, obstructable grace and falling from grace.

one such device used by the Arminians is that at the core of their
theology is the seeking of the glory of man. they've redefined Bible
words in order to get this glory... that's why they walked out of the
meeting at Dort when they were, just as the Calvinists, to support
their position from Holy Scripture.

here we have the Bible doctrine of foreknowledge. while the Bible
clearly states the foreknowledge of God is based in the Divine Plan of
God, the Arminians define this as : God foreseeing would believe in
Christ of their own free-will and thereafter God incorporated man's
work into His Divine Plan.

one can already see that the glory and credit for the doing goes to
man and not God.

we turn our attention to Scripture therefore to learn about the
foreknowledge of God as it relates to His choosing of man for
election... something the Arminians failed to do back in 1618 and now.

in Ro. 9 we have the account of Jacob and Esau. these were twins
never born and doing no good or evil and yet one is elect unto
salvation and one is not... their works good or bad were not taken
into account for God to arrive at this decisions to save one but not
the other.

in the plainest of terms God says election does not " depend on the
man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy. "
election, or God's choosing, is based in God, not in the works of man.
yet, the Arminians insist election resides in man... who then gets the
glory for the doing ? God or man ? obviously, man.

in Acts 13:48, in the plainest of terms, being given eternal life
precedes believing in Christ. this eliminates any idea of man
mustering up some sort of faith and thereby choosing Christ. indeed,
Jesus declares " You did not choose Me, but I chose you... " Jn.15:16

any idea of doing something for God in order to place Him in a
position of indebtedness to man is spawned in hell. Eph. 2:8,9.
the elect are created for good works, not because of good works.
Eph. 2:10

there were 4 Bible prophets elected to salvation while not yet born
and others while yet fetuses. these are : Jacob, David, Jeremiah and
John the Baptist. salvation is not based on man's doing but " on God
who has mercy. "

the foreknowledge of God springs from God's Divine Plan. Acts 2:23
note Granville-Sharps rule of grammar here...

Granville Sharp's rule states that when you have two nouns, which
are not proper names (such as Cephas, or Paul, or Timothy), which are
describing a person, and the two nouns are connected by the word
"and," and the first noun has the article ("the") while the second
does not, *both nouns are referring to the same person.

time and time again the glory for election is given solely and
entirely to God. never to man. such is the case in Eph. 1:3-12.
why then do so many have a gospel which insist's on God's plan of
salvation being based on what man does ?

Jn. 1:12,13 are direct as to man being entirely passive in the
matter of election. receiving Him is... " not by the will of man. "

such passages give all of the glory for the doing to God. this is
why the Arminians refused to use the Bible as their source of
reference some 400 years ago and to this day.
" Salvation belongs to the Lord. " Ps. 3:8

***************************************************************************

the Bible teaches that the foreknowledge of God rests solely in His
Plan and if we refuse to believe the foreknowledge of God rests solely
in God as the Bible teaches, then we are calling God a liar. And that
is a serious matter. for those who are saved are those who believe
the Word of God.

and this is the test of salvation : whether or not we can hear the
Word of God. Jn. 8:43
