[JG] That would be one possible conclusion. The other possible conclusion is
that the ex-satellite and USSR countries know full well the hell that is
Russian occupation, and prefer to avoid it.
BTW, this is not Cuba. In the Cuban case you had a US border nation that had
voiced aggressive intent towards the US preparing to host nuclear weapons.
Did Georgia voice aggressive intent towards Russia? Was Georgia preparing to
host nuclear weapons? The answer is NO, and for the record, if Georgia HAD
shown aggression towards Russia and was preparing to host nukes, I would
have 100% understood a Russian preemption.
There is no serious similarity between the two, although I notice the
attempt by Russian sympathizers to claim that all missiles are missiles, and
ignore the fact that there is a rather significant difference between a
lightweight defensive missile battery and an offensive nuclear missile. That
will sway the stupid, I suppose, but no one else.
OTOH, by using that analogy in an attempt to justify Russia's actions, I
note that you've agreed that Russia's actions were not for humanitarian
reasons. I'm quite glad we've reached concurrence on that point.
*********************
What hypocrisy! What a lack of concern for global security!
[JG] Precisely what I thought when Russia entered Georgia.
*********************
Does that Doomsday Clock still exist? If so, it will be starting to
inch closer to midnight again.
[JG] No question. The debate is about whose fault that is. Vlad didn't count
on the blowback, and, an ex KGB guy should know that there's ALWAYS
blowback. No military action occurs without a reaction, and it appears that
Poland and Ukraine have independently determined what Russia's strategic
intent is (and it's the one you want to blame on American politicians.)
