God the Son came down to earth.
But he was not born in a palace.
Nor did the angels make him known
to all the kings and nations on earth.
He did not grow up seated on a throne.
The rulers of the world did not
place themselves under him.
Why did God the Son come as he did?
Because he came as our substitute.
Why did he do that?
Because it was the only way
that we could be considered
by God to be absolutely righteous
so that we could have eternal life.
How did the Son become righteousness for us?
He lived an absolutely perfect life,
in nature, intent, thought, word, and deed.
Then he went to the cross for us,
and took the penalty for all our sins,
and gave his life for us and rose again.
How is it that many know today
that Christ is our righteousness for us?
Because when the world had lost that truth,
the Lord showed one theologian
from Scripture that it is not our righteousness
but that of Christ considered to be ours by God
that is our entire righteousness for eternal life.
That event began the Protestant movement.
Those who want eternal life
must place all their trust for salvation in Christ
and absolutely none in their own efforts.
How would anyone be able to do that?
Because Christ enables them to realize
that he and not us at all
is our entire righteousness for salvation.
