Taking her name in vain again...

Nope. Grow up, son. You ain't the friggen' Asa-Pope, no matter how much
you might think you are. Time for you to realize the world is more
diverse than your little circle. "Friggen" is a perfectly common word
hereabouts, and has precisely as much religious meaning as "Saturday"
does.

Where does it come from? What is its etymology?

Even more, per the thread's title "What would Odin say?"
For a diety who brags about stirring up wars, I figure
he's disappointed this one will never come to blows.

Odin surrendered his honor for poetry. Poetry was the
method of verbal Lore, how the Lore passed from
generation to generation. When escaping with the Mead
of Inspiration he refused to admit his name and thus
escaped with the Mead. The result is memory within
society. Words like friggen, fricken and Wednesday
have seeped into the language far deeper than tales
like When Thor Went Fishing.

So I think Odin is happy with the memory of the Aesir
being so deeply engrained. Maybe it's part of his
sense of humor that he leaves it to his silent wife
to voice her opinions on the matter. Bizzare sense
of humor.

Hail Asgard!

And Nik would have us lobotomize our language to remove what he sees as
references to the Aesir. Gah.

Interesting and informative. Thanks, Nik.

Like I've already said...a hint lies in this text:

"From the Old English for "masturbate," frigg long ago lost this
meaning in the County, although its origins as a forbidden word may
have encouraged its use as a substitution for other, more colorful
forms of cussing"

It has older origins...and its older origins are anti-Heathen
Christian abuse of our women.

Or Wagner's characterization of a not-so-silent wife fucking (not to insult
her) up his game plan is correct.

Thank you. At least I'm not being a Nik... the sheep next door would be
in serious jeopardy in that case.
